There’s a great deal of information online about the “4% Rule” for retirement income. Much of the information is excellent. Some of it is flawed.

It’s very challenging to work through the data in this area of research because much of it is highly technical. But, it’s worth the effort!

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the original “4% Rule” paper by William Bengen (published in the October 1994 Journal of Financial Planning), I’ve invited Dr. Wade Pfau on to the program to discuss the history of this research.

Dr. Wade Pfau, Ph.D, CFA serves as a Professor of Retirement Income at the American College of Financial Services. He’s an expert on this area of financial planning and he is a steady contributor of original research on this area.
